18 December 2009

Vocalist Ronnie Stixx has issued the following statement:
"It's official. I have quit VICIOUS RUMORS due to unfair conditions and very shady acts from certain members (of the) band... this may come to no surprise to many of you ... this decision was made during the HOA Head Bangers Open Air 2009.
From that the start I feel like I have been treated like a outsider and still owed money from past 2008 shows... but I still always put 110% in VR despite all warnings from many of you who have delt with VR in the past...
WELL YOU WERE RIGHT... I guess I found out the hard way... I am sorry if I let the VR fans down... for leaving the band... but you have to see from my point of view... when a band has lots of lineup changes and vocalist quiting... they must have had a good reason for leaving.
I will not bash or go into detail with what those shady acts are...
Look everyone who knows me knows that I am cool to everyone... but I just could not deal with ROCK STAR'S EGOS and shy conditions any longer... look when you are faced with big egos... you can do one of two things either eat their shit or tell them to fuck off!
With nothing material being written or recorded in over two years... and just milking the tours on old songs for one person's gain... this was not what I thought it was going to be... well they may come out and say 'well he was just a hired gun' but you have to be paid to be called that!
Call it what you will (quit, fired, split) whatever! At the end of the day it was not working out.
I will continue with BLOOD RED SKIES as we gear up for our new album due for March 2010 as well festival dates in the U.S. and Europe."

Swedish melodic thrash quintet DECADENCE have issued the following update:
"Christmas is closing in and it's almost exactly two months since Chargepoint was released. Since then plans are in action for upcoming events and happenings. Things might have been silent from us during this time but be sure that nothing is standing still over here! Here is a little catching up for you about some of the things going on at the time. Decadence has two new street teams started for fans by fans spreading decay all over, so welcome team Serbia (run by Miroslav) and team Venezuela (run by Condesa) to our crew! Speaking of South America, the plans are leaning in that direction concerning future shows and events so keep your eyes and ears open. Tomorrow is Kenneth's birthday (Happy Bday!!) and we will celebrate it with a brutal new set list rehearsal along with watching one of our concerts recorded in Tilburg, Netherlands at Mario's Metal Mania III Warm Up by our friend Rainer at Metaleros Distribution. That video is a rarity and some clips will be spread later. Speaking of rarities now! Deca Santa is here with an early Christmas present for you all! We have a super rare part from a live clip for you. It was recorded on the House of Metal festival in Umea, Sweden 2008. This song is a TESTAMENT cover so I put the growl on the shelf and did what I enjoy the most – thrash! Click on the Deca Santa to hear it on YouTube (see below)! Other than that, guess what? We're working on new songs! Decadence wishes you all a Metal Xmas!"

16 December 2009

On Thursday, December 3rd Ronnie Stixx officially left VICIOUS RUMORS. After working together for two years, Ronnie decided that he was not the right vocalist for VR. Brian Allen from the group, LAST EMPIRE, has been confirmed to assume the lead vocal position for Vicious Rumors at their December 19, 2009 show, sponsored by Sfarzo Strings, at the Last Day Saloon in Santa Rosa with headliner, DEATH ANGEL and opener, SEEDS OF HATE.
VR released the following statement regarding Brian Allen: "We worked with him for a few days and Brian is amazing!! Our plan is to work with Brian for our show December 19th, and in the studio for the pre-production work for our new CD. We have had many interested singers approach us and hope to make our final decision for the line-up and new CD this January."
VR will be back with a new CD and world tour in 2010 and would like to thank their fans and friends for their 30 years of support!!

IRON MAIDEN guitarist Janick Gers has revealed to sources that the band has already started writing songs for its 15th studio album. Drummer Nicko McBrain also spoke this past summer about the follow-up to 2006's A Matter Of Life And Death which charted in the top 20 in 34 countries worldwide.
"The actual studio is actually booked," he revealed. "But the plan is in November, we congregate somewhere, probably in Europe, to write the album. Bruce and (guitarist) Adrian (Smith) (are over there), (bassist/songwriter) Steve's (Harris) over here in this part of the world, David lives in Hawaii, so to get together for writing before we all get together is a bit difficult at the moment. We'll probably get together in November, first week probably, and go to right before Christmas, writing the album. I'm really looking forward to that: just being with the guys, getting back, writing new songs, and playing them is always very special."

8 November 2009

WorldSound Label Group has repackaged the cult-classic debut album from SACRED OATH, A Crystal Vision, in a twentieth anniversary edition (compact disc) for release on November 10th, 2009.
Originally released by Mercenary Records in 1988, A Crystal Vision has come to be regarded as one of the seminal metal albums that spawned the power metal movement of the 90’s, despite the band breaking up shortly after it's release.
The reissue faithfully preserves the contents, song order, and front cover design of the original Mercenary release but features the front cover artwork as it was always meant to be seen – in full color. The original pressing of the vinyl LP had the artwork in brown sepia tone, much to the band’s dismay.
“I cannot tell you how pleased I am that this album is still being celebrated twenty years later, and that the cover art will finally be seen as it was intended back then,” says Rob Thorne, the band’s lead singer and founding member. “This is certainly the best edition of A Crystal Vision ever.”
The package also contains an 8-page booklet with song lyrics, art, and unseen archival photos of Sacred Oath from 1988. This reissue is part of WorldSound’s exclusive license to press and distribute the entire Sacred Oath catalog, including the acclaimed live album, Till Death Do Us Part, Darkness Visible, and of course the self-titled Sacred Oath which was released on August 25th.

AT WAR unveils track from new album ''INFIDEL'' With their new studio album, Infidel, hitting streets on August 18th 2009, US war metal legends AT WAR are pleased to give fans a taste of what they can expect with the unveiling of the eponymous track 'At War'. Their first new studio album in over 20 years, ''Infidel'' is certain to rank amongst AT WAR's esteemed discography as the band’s most brutal and uncompromising work to date. The previewed track “At War” is one of nine tracks featured on Infidel- nine tracks of pure War Metal the likes of which can only be delivered by AT WAR. Formed in 1983 by guitarist Shawn Helsel, bassist and vocalist Paul Arnold and drummer Dave Stone AT WAR went on to solidify themselves as one premier metal bands in the American underground. After the reviews and college radio play of their 1985 demo ''Eat Lead'', AT WAR went on to release their albums ''Ordered to Kill'' (1986) and ''Retaliatory Strike'' (1987) for New Renaissance Records. A follow up to Retaliatory Strike was recorded in 1994 but ultimately scrapped which prompted AT WAR to go on an indefinite hiatus only to have the beast awaken from its slumber in 2006 to begin working the material that would become ''Infidel''. Throughout 2007 and 2008, a series of triumphant US shows and festival appearances in Europe and Mexico showed AT WAR at the top of their game and unphased by the passage of time or musical trends. Earlier this year AT WAR once again entered Pyramid Sound to record Infidel with Alex Perialas known for not only has work on AT WAR’S seminal 1987 album ''Retaliatory Stike'' but for genre defining albums by such bands as Anthrax, Testament, Overkill, Nuclear Assault,.... ''Infidel''’s stunning cover artwork comes courtesy of legendary illustrator and photographer Claudio Bergamin.

Dave previously stated about "Arrival", "We have spent the last three years working on this record, and the results are just amazing. It has been a real labor of love for London and I, and this is by far the best record I have ever done in my career. Although I am very proud of my past with VICIOUS RUMORS and all the great records we did, I can honestly say that this new album is better than anything I have ever done before. Great songs, great playing, great production, and London is going to really turn some heads with her amazing vocals; I have never heard a woman sound like this before, she has pipes that people are comparing to Rob Halford, Geoff Tate, and Carl Albert."
"Arrival" will be released on WILDESTARR's own label, Furnace Maximus Records. The video for the title track/first single will also be made available.

ANGER AS ART have been joined by guitarist/vocalist Daniel Oliverio (ABATTOIR). "With all due respect to [former guitarist] William [Rustrum], it was clear that musically he was moving in a different direction… a lot more progressive, and perhaps fusion than the formula that ANGER AS ART consists of," says guitarist/vocalist Steve Gaines. "With Dan, there are no surprises. We have known each other for nearly 30 years. His rhythm style is so similar to mine — heavy palm mute, vibrato, and use of harmonics — that it is uncanny. Not to mention that he has a great voice, so the lead vocal trade off we have done since the beginning of ANGER AS ART will continue."

GOREFEST have called it quits. A statement on their website reads as follows: "After two albums, both of which we're hugely proud of, and about a hundred shows, all of them memorable in their own way, the question that remained for us was: what's next? The answer can be short: nothing. La Muerte and Rise To Ruin are two albums with which we've expanded, and indeed completed our body of work to our full satisfaction. Barring one or two exceptions, all the shows we've done since we decided to reform sometime in 2004 have been tremendously enjoyable. So why quit? Pretty simple, really: Every ride comes to an end. This is our's. JC, Boudewijn, Ed, Frank."

Guitarist Mike Scaccia of Texan Thrash Metal act RIGOR MORTIS underwent emergency neck surgery on Monday, May 4 - 2009.
As written on the band's Myspace:
"Mike just sent a text message that said he just woke up and that they had to slit his throat open to perform the surgery. He said he won't be able to talk for a few days, but that the surgery looks like a success." Regarding the operation, the band previously said, "Scaccia has been having problems with severe pains in his arms in recent years. It appeared it was always from medical conditions such as tendonitis from the many years of playing the intense and fast style of music that he plays. But a few days after his performance in Germany at the Keep It True Festival last weekend, Scaccia noticed his left arm went totally numb. So he went in to see his chiropractor, who noticed something seriously wrong in Scaccia's neck. So he sent him for an immediate MRI. The results showed that Scaccia has a cervical herniated disc in his lower neck and they told him that he could easily become paralyzed without immediate surgery.''

ANGER AS ART vocalist/guitarist Steve Gaines has issued the following update:
"Many things are happening in the Anger camp. All of it good, I might add. It can now be stated that the next album Disfigure will be done with Chris Trent at the (production and mixing) desk again - much to my relief. Chris has been there since the beginning of Anger, and has always been thought of as a member - much like George Martin was to the BEATLES. He is probably the only one on this Earth who I trust with my music completely. Tracking of drums will begin while I am in Europe with ABATTOIR. Sound odd? Not really, because I will be there. More on that in the next couple of blogs.

Speaking of ABATTOIR, I wanted to let you all know that we will be live in Studio on www.knac.com this Sunday April 12 at 11:30 AM PST. The host of the the show will be DJ Will... on The Vault. Hoping you guys can check it out - log in online, see the webcam of our handsome mugs (!) and make requests in the chat-room. We'll be talking about our Los Angeles show on the 18th, the European tour which starts a week later with a headlining date at Keep It True in Germany... and just what in the hell we think we are doing by trotting this dinosaur around the world - after all this time. Gonna be a good listen.
Back to Anger... it is important that you pay attention the the next few blogs so that you are all well informed as to what we have in store for you with the new album, and beyond. Talk very soon, you crazies!"

But first of all I like to announce Silje Wergeland as our new vocalist! Silje has been the singer of the Norwegian band Octavia Sperati for 8 years including several other projects. This album also includes two very talented guest singers: the Dutch Anne van den Hoogen and Mexican Marcela Bovio (from Stream of Passion), and some other guest musicians. What can we say about ‘The West Pole’? It’s a very vital, atmospheric and extravert rock orientated album, with all the quality and power The Gathering is so famous for, also with many new elements. The sound is guitar driven, alive and urgent; a strong and beautifully coloured album with haunting female vocals. It’s produced by guitar player René Rutten and mixed & mastered by Zlaya Hadzich (who also did the production of ‘Souvenirs’) and René. I hope you enjoy listening our new songs and our new homepage and myspace.

Metal Blade Records is pleased to announce the addition of Boston Massachusetts metalers RAVAGE to its roster. The Heavy Metal band Ravage began as the idea of two young brothers from Boston Massachusetts, whom fans would come to know as Al Ravage and Eli Joe, who wished to form a band that could bring bombastic Heavy Metal back to prominence and crush the insipid alterna-grunge music craze of the mid-90's. Though the barely-high school aged rockers had mighty ambitions when they played their first gig in 1996, they quickly learned that Rome was not built in a day, and Ravage had to work on honing their sound and forging their way through the local underground Metal scene. Now in their early 20's Ravage is ready to show the metal world what they're made of with their Metal Blade debut The End of Tomorrow, which will drop in the late summer of 2009 and features cover art by none other than Ed Repka (Megadeth, Death, Austrian Death Machine).

Heart Of Steel Records has announce the signing of long-running Swedish band TORCH for their new album called "Dark Sinner".
Torch was founded back in 1980 and became a classic name in the rich European heavy metal scene of the eighties; during its lifetime the band released a MLP (Fireraiser in 1982) and two full-length albums (Torch in 1983 and ElectriKiss in 1984), toured around Europe, did some festivals and played with bands such as MOTÖRHEAD and WARLOCK, making a permanent mark in the Swedish metal history. After nearly twenty years of silence, original singer Dan Dark started to plan a couple of reunion shows, and in 2005 Torch was officially reunited and back in action with this line-up: Dan Dark: vocals, Tomi Peltonen (Griffen) on guitar, Alx Jonsson (Fatal Smile) on bass, and Kristian Huotari (Scaar) on drums. They proved to be stronger than ever at the Keep It True festival in Germany.
Excited by the feedback received from both, old and new fans, still interested in getting some good old heavy metal from Torch, Dan Dark and his band-mates started worked on a new album, Dark Sinner, a sort of 'best of' including their biggest and best songs, re-recorded with an excellent production but still keeping close to the original 'feeling', with two additional never-released tracks. Following the release of Dark Sinner, Torch will embark on an European tour, plus they will spread some classic Swedish steel at one of biggest Heavy Metal festivals in Europe, the mighty Sweden Rock Festival (June 3-6, 2009)
Dark Sinner will be released on April 3rd.

UK THrash Metal merchants EVILE are currently hard at work on the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2007 debut album ''ENTER THE GRAVE''.
Guitarist OL DRAKE checks in with some details on the band's highly anticipated second offering:
"We're very glad to announce we'll be working with the brilliant Russ Russell on the next release at Parlour Studios, UK. Russ has produced excellent work with bands such as Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir, The Exploited and many more. We've known Russ for a few years now. We first met him in London at one of our shows where he expressed how much he'd like to work with us sometime, and that time has come. I believe Russ can bring us a very interesting sound and approach to the new material which we're writing. Expect a very crushing and interesting album! The cover art will also be very crushing and interesting! Definitely one for vinyl!
"We've been working non-stop on the new Evile material since before the Megadeth tour last February. We're even into the demo process of the new album. Just last weekend we recorded the first 3 demo tracks we completed first. Looking back on what we've been writing, it's surprising how diverse and different the material has got since starting on the first "album 2" song. Don't worry, it's thrash, we're just trying to use our brains more than our 'ripped jeans'."
EVILE's as-yet untitled second album is due to be released in late 2009 through Earache Records.

RIOT returns in the "Thundersteel" line-up:
Once again, Riot is Mark Reale, Don Van Stavern, Bobby Jarzombek, Mike Flyntz and Tony Moore.

The musicians who created the critically acclaimed classics 'Thundersteel' and 'The Privilige of Power' have reunited for a new album and tour, beginning in June of 2009 with a triumphant opening show at Sweden Rock Festival in Solvesborg.
After initial success in the early 80’s, iconoclastic metal band RIOT rose from the ashes after a few years of silence to release THUNDERSTEEL (CBS 1988), an album that would become as celebrated as the new line-up that spawned it: Mark Reale (guitars), Tony Moore (vocals), Don Van Stavern (bass), and Bobby Jarzombek (drums) and Mike Flyntz (guitars), who joined the lineup during RIOT's first triumphant Thundersteel Tour of Japan.
Their follow-up release, THE PRIVILEGE OF POWER (CBS 1990), flexed RIOT’s creative and metal muscles even further, cementing renewed fan interest around the world, particularly in Europe and Japan. In the ensuing years, the 'Thundersteel' line-up became near-legendary in the metal canon. They were hailed as “the bridge between Priest and speed metal” and have been heralded as an influence by many, including Hammerfall who cover RIOT’s “Flight Of The Warrior” off Thundersteel on their new CD, Masterpieces.
RIOT is a staple subject on metal blogs around the world and there have been whispered rumors over the years of a "Thundersteel reunion" tour and a new album. Now the tour is a reality as the "Thundersteel" line-up returns to the road in June 2009 for the first leg of a European tour: Confirmed for Sweden Rock June 4-6, 2009 (performance date/time TBD)

AFTER FOREVER disband according this press release:
Dearest Fans,
After nearly 15 years and with heavy hearts, we have decided to call an end to a great and exciting time as After Forever. We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished, and especially of the road we took to get here. After Forever has never been a band that repeated itself; we always tried out new things, even though many of them were certainly done at a risk. We think that that has been one of the reasons we’ve always enjoyed enormous support from all our loyal fans.
The break we took in 2008 made us appreciate all the more what we’d experienced. Now more than ever, we can look back on so many fantastic moments, something we never would have expected to be part of when we started the band all those years ago.
However, that break also made us aware of the fact that we can only continue After Forever with the energy, the full 110%, that we have always put into it and we’ve noticed lately that there is something missing. We have always been musicians who create music with lots of passion, and during the break we built up our own lives again and have been musically active and experimenting in several genres.
Although After Forever is very special to us, we feel that we have reached the point where we need to explore the world of music in each of our own different ways. Thus, we’ve decided to quit while we’re ahead. We are sincerely proud of every CD; each album represents a unique period, and all comes together in our last album "After Forever," which made all of our dreams possible. We hope After Forever will continue to be a source of inspiration for new bands and musicians alike so that our music can live on.
As band members, but also as friends, we’ve experienced so very much; highs and lows, good times and bad. We'll keep supporting each other in all of our various individual projects and continue inspiring one another in making music. Our MySpace page www.myspace.com/afterforever will be used for updates on all of these projects and of course After Forever-related news, as well. You can be sure that this is not an easy decision for any of us. We'd like to thank all of our fans for their support, also during the break.
We know that this will be a big disappointment to you, dear fans, and it makes it that much harder for us. You have always given us your all and it was our pledge, in turn, always to give at least as much back to you for as long as we exist. In this moment, that’s unfortunately just not possible, so we'd rather leave you all the albums and gigs we achieved with maximum input. We'd also like to thank Nuclear Blast, TEG and MOJO for their patience and enthusiasm, the live crew, the fan club, the fan sites and everybody who's helped in every way possible.
We'll miss you all.
Most Sincerely,
Floor, Sander, Joost, Bas, Andre and Luuk
After Forever

The Keep It True XIII festival will take place in April 2010 at Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany.
Organizers have issued the following update:
"We are happy to be able to announce two amazing new acts for Keep It True XIII in April 2010.
The first new addition is Canadian legend THOR. It is hard to find a more cult? character in the metal scene than Jon-Mikl Thor. The Canadian Rockwarrior is part of the scene since the mid seventies and was famous for his extraordinary live shows in the eighties. I think everybody remembers the blowing of the warm water bottle and the crushing of the steel bar legendary!! Additionally to that, Thor released a highly important album called ?Only The Strong?, which featured classic tracks like ?'Thunder On The Tundra?' or '?Let The Blood Run Red'? and was his breakthrough. Unfortunately the band never made it to Germany through all these years and we are extremely proud we could work it out for Keep It True, cause Thor fits like a glove to KIT. We cannot wait for Thor swinging the hammer on Keep It True XIII.
The second addition is Californian Speed Metal legend SAVAGE GRACE with mastermind Chris Logue. For us it is a dream come true, cause we tried to get the band since the very first KIT and now it becomes reality. With ?Master Of Disguise? and ?After The Fall From Grace? the band released two milestones of Speed Metal and is considered as one of the best bands ever of that genre. Since they were one of the most often asked for bands, we hope we also can fulfil the dream of many KIT Fans with this new addition.

Finally here is the update on the billing in alphabetical order: ADX, CRYSTAL VIPER, DEMON (Special 30th Anniversary Show), HADES, HEART OF CYGNUS, OBSESSION, SATANS HOST (with Harry Conklin), SAVAGE GRACE, SIREN, STRIKER, THOR, TYGERS OF PAN TANG, WHIPLASH, + 2 headliners!

20 Bands, Two Days - April 2010 - Lauda-Königshofen, Tauberfrankenhalle.
Ticket will be available first on KIT 12 in April 2009.

Mowery comments: "Not even a day after the latest press release Maor contacted us interested in stepping up and making these two songs what they are now. He did an awesome job and even gave us more than one version to choose from! His professionalism and willingness to work with us was right on time! Thanks Maor! We’ll be back!”
